The Amazing Ostomy Camp

Camp has been one of the most impactful experiences I have ever had. I attended ostomy camp for nine years and it helped me become the person who I am today. I grew up in a small city where no one else had a cecostomy so camp gave me the opportunity to meet other kids and adults who we were just like me and going through many of the same things. Before attending camp, I hated the fact that I had my ostomy and never wanted anyone to know about it because I thought no one else would understand. Having the relationships, I made at camp was such an important thing for me as at home I felt very alone. The people at camp helped me overcome so many fears and gave me the confidence I have now to be who I am. Camp became my family and I am so grateful for the opportunity Ostomy Canada Society has provided for me and so many other kids. I created lifelong friendships at camp and I will take all the things I learned from camp with me for the rest of my life. I am now graduated from camp and taking everything that I learned and living my life to the fullest.
